Your BMI is calculated as the proportion of your mass to your height squared
The BMI value indicators are as follows: a BMI of 18.5 to 25 may indicate optimal weight; a BMI lower than 18.5 suggests that you are underweight while a number above 25 may indicate that you are overweight; a number above 30 suggests that you are obese (over 40, morbidly obese).
Child BMI Calculation
For children (5 to 20) there are no standard ranges for BMI, instead a BMI percentile is used, which ranks each child against their age peers. The data used in this application was supplied by the WHO's Child Growth Reference.
Being within the first 5th percentile may indicate an underweight child, between the 5th and 85th percentile indicates an optimal weight; over the 85th percentile is an indication that a child is overweight and above 95th percentile is an indication of obesity.
Growth spurts in adolescent children can produce aberrant results, if you have any concerns we recommend consulting with your GP.
